The forests around the village are home to a very diverse mix of trees and herbs in the undergrowth. This is due to the fact that the area is located on the boundary of several environments. The (South) Carpathian meets the Pannonian, Pontic and Sub-Mediterranean areas.
The first inhabitants entered the wooded landscape and had to fight the forest in order to have access to meadows, pastures and fields.
Forests are used in a variety of ways. Livestock graze in the forests, and from time to time the forests are burned to improve the quality of the pasture. For firewood production, the forest is managed via the coppicing method. The forest is regenerated by coppicing stumps and relatively thin logs (usually 5-15 cm thick) are harvested, with a regeneration period of about 10-20 years. Coppice forests are most often found near villages. The furthest away from the village are the high-forest woodlands, which originate from generative regeneration (from seeds) and produce high quality timber suitable for a variety of construction purposes.
The first military mapping shows an area almost entirely covered by forests. (Source: Arcanum.)
